C. 1957 Nashville Bridge Co. Barge Launch 8X10 H52
Located on the Cumberland River next to the Shelby Avenue Bridge, which is now called The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge, adjacent to where they built Nissan Stadium. Nashville Bridge Company was started in 1899 by Arthur Dyer. His business boomed after the 1902 flood, which destroyed many bridges throughout the state. He then turned to building steel framework for structures in Nashville, such as the Hermitage Hotel and the Arcade building. There was a shortage of steel for the private sector during WWI, so Dyer changed the focus of his company and started building oil tankers. After the war ended Dyer shifted to the construction of barges, towboats, and steamers. During WWII the company built minesweepers and submarine chasers for the U.S. Navy. The company sold in 1968 for $15 million in cash. In 1996 the Nashville Bridge shipyard was moved out to make way for the new NFL stadium.
